My High Five Smoothies and Juices are so easy to make because they only have 5 ingredients!
If you don’t have a juicer or have the time for clean up with the juicer, you could put these same ingredients into a blender and make a smoothie instead.
Here are the ingredients for my High Five Fall Favorite:
Mandarin oranges have vitamins A and C, calcium and omegas 3 and 6. They have about 4-5g of sugar per orange. These are what add the sweetness to this juice. Vitamin A is good for your eyes and soft tissue bone health.
Note: you can substitute any kind of orange on hand.
I like mandarins because they are easy and fast to peel.
Carrots have lots vitamin A which is good for eye health. They have about 2g of sugar per small carrot so they pack a little sweetness but not too much.
Beets are one of my favorite vegetables. They are super juicy so they contribute to a lot of the juice in this recipe and are the main ingredient.
They are packed with antioxidants. Antioxidants repair damaged cells caused by aging or oxidation. Think of a penny. As copper is exposed to the environment, it turns green (like our Lady Liberty).
Antioxidants prevent the oxidation or damage to our cells.
- They also have detoxifying nutrients.
- Studies show that nitrates in beets improve athletic performance.
- They are high in folate – which is an essential vitamin for growth of healthy fetus in pregnant women.
- They contribute to brain health.
- Anti inflammation
Beets are considered a “superfood” because of their wide variety of health benefits, as you can see.
Ginger adds a little spice and contributes to the fall flavor of this juice. Ginger is known for reducing nausea, being an anti inflammatory agent, and being a cancer preventer.
A couple dashes of cinnamon will do to top off the juice at the end. Cinnamon may lower blood sugar levels which is good for folks with diabetes.
Putting it All Together
When it comes to juicing, I’m not really particular about the amounts. I usually adjust the recipe based on the ingredients I have and adjust to taste.
The mandarins are going to add sweetness so if you like your juice sweeter, add more mandarin. The carrots and beets add a lot of the juice so you’ll want to add those to get the bulk of the juice.
Ginger is potent so you’ll only need a small hunk (peeled) and add more if you prefer spicier juice. And to top it off, just a couple shakes of cinnamon – a little goes a long way.
Cheers to your health my friends! Enjoy!
